I Believe in Excellence

Most of us have heard this saying before: "There are no short-cuts in life." And from my experience, it's mostly true. Many times, there are no ways around a situation, and I have found that there are no short-cuts to success. I've learned that hard work can truly pay off and that there are big rewards that can come with it! Perseverance can get you to places you otherwise would not have been in.

It's sad that in today's economic climate, the corporate ideology is that of greed, cheating, and short-cuts. As a result, America has suffered. We are in a mess and are slowly digging our way out of it. I think America finally reaped the fruit of what it had been sowing for years: shortcuts to wealth. And we see the heart of America ripped open and visible for all to see.

I've learned that it starts with the individual. It begins with me and you. We can decide to be people of excellence. We can choose to rise above mediocrity. We can rise above moral laxness. Let me challenge us to be different. Let's be people who don't necessarily take the easy road, but the road that truly pays off, the road that comes with perseverance, dedication, hard work, and an honest day's work.

Dare to be different. Dare to dream big, and reach for the stars! If you shoot for them, you just might hit one of them, and at the same time, you will rise above the rest! I heard someone once say, "If you don't shoot for the stars, you will always miss." How true. If you don't have goals, you will never reach them. Let's aim for excellence in our lives! I believe we can make it! That's why I love the motto of the college that I went to. It was one word: "Excellence." That's what our professors always told us. Be a person of excellence. Not perfection, because nobody can be perfect, but excellent.

Today, choose to have this as the motto of your life. Believe in excellence. And when you do, you will notice the difference in your life and the lives of those around you.

Have a great and beautiful day!

Knowledge is More Than Power

Ever since I was a little kid, I remember having problems with my speech, language, and English abilities. Like many boys, I started late in school, and I hated it. I knew I was behind, and I wanted to do something about it. So I remember praying in 2nd grade, "God help me to do good in school. Give me as much knowledge as you want!" It took some time, but in a span of a couple of years I went from D's to A's, and I still have my report cards to prove it!  I show some of my students that they, too, can improve.

It just goes to show: everyone--and I mean everyone--has the ability to grow. Everyone has the capacity to learn, grow, and experience new things. We have been created with the ability to increase exponentially in our knowledge. Scientists say that if we were to build a computer that would perform all the tasks that the human brain can do, it would be the size of the Empire State Building in New York City! Imagine that! All the neural networks of the human brain have been wired and connected with an awesome ability to remember, archive, and create information. What an amazing wonder we possess!

The saying is true: knowledge is power. I have seen it time and time again. The more a person knows, the more open doors in life he/she will have. The more people grow in their communication, the more they can get along in their relationships. The more they grow in their people skills, the more they can relate to others. That is why my philosophy is "Knowledge is more than power: it's the way to life itself," because it opens doors. It opens possibilities. It opens the way to a more abundant and fulfilling life.

I hope that this day you, too, will decide to grow in your abilities--whatever they may be. Decide to expand your mind. Decide to explore the possibilities. Dare to dream--and to dream big! Use those talents; use those skills; and use the amazing mind that God gave you. When you do, you will experience new things that you wouldn't even have dreamed of.

Have a Beautiful Day!
